Quaker City Alumnae History

Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. - Quaker City Alumnae Chapter (QCA) was chartered on October 17, 1976. The chartering ceremony was held on the campus of LaSalle University, Philadelphia, PA. Eastern Regional Director Chappelle Armstead led the chartering ceremony. Twenty-eight enthusiastic young women combined their skills and energies to establish a new alumnae chapter in Philadelphia.

Quaker City Alumnae Chapter's goal is to enhance the community in which we live through our public service programs. We support the Five-Point Program thrust of our national organization, which includes: Educational Development, Economic Development, Physical and Mental Health, Political Awareness and Involvement and International Awareness and Involvement.

Our continuing community service efforts to impact the lives of children include our Toy Library, Delta Academy I & II and the SEE (Science and Everyday Experiences) Program. Through our Scholarship Committee we have sponsored college tours for high school students and awarded thousands of dollars in scholarship funds.

Financial planning workshops educating the public about retirement, home buying, credit repair and investing have been coordinated by the Economic Development Committee.

The Physical and Mental Health Committee has spearheaded food and clothing drives for the less fortunate as well as sponsoring our annual health fairs.

The Social Action Committee has sponsored voter education and voter registration projects and an Annual Dessert Hour, which brings local politicians before an audience of concerned citizens.

The Arts and Letters Committee enabled sorors to participate in a book club, hold a Delta Authors on Tour Program and sponsor the Annual Poetry Cafe' raising funds to benefit Freedom Theatre.
